Dopaminergic involvement in attention. A novel animal model.
نویسندگان
چکیده
1. Adult male outbred albino mice were acutely injected with either of two dopamine (DA) agonists; Apomorphine, a receptor agonist, or Amantadine, a DA releasing agent. 2. Both drugs produced dose-related alterations in initial Y-maze behavior, consisting of significantly increased proportions of 2-arm entries. 3. This behavior has previously been shown to reflect an abnormal sttentional process. 4. Thus DA activation may cause sensory perseveration. 5. The implications of this finding for DA r;heories of psychopathology i.j discussed.

Dopamine-Synthesizing Neurons: An Overview of Their Development and Application for Cell Therapy
Cell-gene therapy is a dynamic constituent of novel medical biotechnology. Neurodegenerative disordersin which damage to or demise of specific brain cell types plays central role, are clear examples of diseasecandidate for cell replacement therapy. Dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons biosynthesize dopamine, a vitalneurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Due to the involveme...
متن کاملEstrogen agonist genistein differentially influences the cognitive and motor disorders in an ovariectomized animal model of Parkinsonism
Objective(s): Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurological disorder associated with motor disabilities and cognitive dysfunction as well. Evidence indicates that PD occurs less frequently in women than men, confirming a role for steroid hormones in protection of dopaminergic nigrostriatal neurons. It is reported that soy genistein, an estrogen agonist phytoestrogen, display neuroprote...
متن کاملThe Effect of Olive Leaf Methanolic Extract on Hippocampal Antioxidant Biomarkers in an Animal Model of Parkinson’s Disease
Background and Objective: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disease characterized by damages to striatal dopaminergic neurons that affects 1 to 2% of the population above 65 years of age. Olive leaf extract (OLE) is a powerful antioxidant that is considered as a source of various phenolic compounds. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of methanolic OLE on hipp...
متن کاملStrengths and limitations of genetic models of ADHD.
The cause and pathophysiology of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are unknown, but compelling evidence suggests an involvement of genetic factors. While dopamine is believed to play a major role in ADHD, the role for norepinephrine and serotonin systems has also been indicated. Mutant mice are valuable tools to dissect the contribution of specific neurotransmitter systems to brai...
متن کاملEffect of Dexamethasone on Striatal Neurotransmissions in the Rats Subjected to Parkinson’s Disease Animal Model
Objective(s) The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of dexamethasone on striatal dopaminergic, glutamatergic and gamma amino butyric acid (GABA) ergic neurotransmission in normal and parkinsonian rats. Materials and Methods Dexamethasone (0.15, 0.30, 0.60 and 0.8 mg/kg) was administered to normal or parkinsonian rats (i.p.) followed by the analysis of the striatal neurotransmitter...
